AGED 5703: Cultural Competency for Working in Agricultural and Extension Education

Course Description
Cultural Competency for Working in Agricultural and Extension Education is presented mainly to support to Oklahoma State University and other Land Grand Universities’ strategies to increase intercultural understanding and competence, diversity, and intercultural opportunities among undergraduate and graduate students, preparing them to live and work in different societies. The focus of this class is to discuss the basic concepts of cultural values and stereotypes, intercultural sensitivity and competence, cultural intelligence, cultural differences, managing cultural transitions, and intercultural theories. Theory is presented and discussed in open forums encouraging students to critically discuss the importance of analyzed appropriated behaviors in diverse societies, understanding and respecting diversity and cultural differences in order to become intercultural competent and global leaders.
