Ag Education OSU-UPAEP Dual Ph.d.

Earn a dual doctoral degree in four years.

Are you interested in earning a dual doctoral degree, living in Mexico, and conducting interdisciplinary research? Would you like to make international connections for career opportunities? Improve your Spanish, deepen your understanding of Mexican culture and live in one of Mexico’s most beautiful world heritage cities.

Oklahoma State University (OSU) and Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP), Mexico offer a dual Ph.D. degree program in Agricultural Education, Communications and Leadership. Students live, study, and conduct research with faculty at both campuses, earing 75 credit hours leading to a dual doctoral degree.

The dual degree program provides student participants from each institution with an opportunity to study in and benefit from the academic and cultural environment of the other institution.

  • Phase One
    • Spend 18 months at OSU or UPAEP (home institution), earn 30 credit hours. Be supported by advisers from OSU and UPAEP.
  • Phase Two
    • Spend 18 months at UPAEP or OSU (host institution), practice Spanish or English, conduct interdisciplinary research and earn 30 credit hours.
  • Phase Three
    • Spend one final year at OSU completing dissertation (15 credit hours). Reap the rewards of your dual degree!

Students must meet admission requirements at both institutions. Spanish and English language proficiency is required.


Pay applicable resident tuition and fees at home institution (no out of state or international tuition applied).

Other Costs

Travel, local transportation, meals, books, supplies, medical insurance, personal expenditures, and living expenses.


UPAEP and OSU will secure appropriate housing in university residence halls and provide appropriate admissions certificates and visa documents.
